No. Learner drivers must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver. Driving alone on a Learner Permit is illegal and can result in fines, penalty points, or even your car being seized.

Yes, provided your car insurance covers driving lessons. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend starting in our dual-controlled school car until you reach a safe driving standard.

Each lesson lasts a minimum of one hour. Two-hour lessons are also available for faster progress.

Yes. All learner drivers must display L-plates when driving. Failure to do so can result in fines, penalty points, or other legal consequences.

Yes. Once you receive your full driving licence, you may drive independently. However, for the first two years you must display N-plates (Novice plates). Failing to display N-plates can result in fines or penalty points.

The RSA requires 12 Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons as a minimum for all first-time Learner Permit holders. Many students take additional car driving lessons to improve their skills, build confidence, and increase their chances of passing the driving test.

Waiting times vary depending on the RSA test centre. You can check up-to-date waiting times on rsa.ie. Some cases, such as essential workers, may qualify for a fast-tracked driving test application.

Yes. The RSA recommends spacing lessons with practice in between, but you can also choose intensive options such as our 3-day EDT course to complete your training faster.

Yes. We currently provide car lessons and pre-tests in Carlow, Naas, and Newbridge, so you can prepare in the same area where you will take your test.

No. At present, Raven Driving Training School provides manual car driving lessons only. Lessons are delivered in our dual-controlled school car or in a client’s own car, provided their insurance covers it.

Yes, provided your insurance covers lessons in your vehicle. Many students choose to use the school’s dual-controlled car for extra safety and confidence.
