The theory driving test for motorcycles is a multiple-choice computer-based exam provided by the RSA (Road Safety Authority) in Ireland. It's designed to assess your understanding of road rules, hazard awareness, and safe motorbike operation.

Whether you're aiming to ride a motorbike, scooter, or moped, passing the theory test is your first legal requirement before you can apply for a learner permit and begin Initial Basic Training (IBT).

How Does the Motorcycle Theory Test Work?

The process is straightforward, but it's important to prepare properly.

1. Study the MaterialGet familiar with:

   • The Official RSA Motorcycle Driver Theory Test Book

   • The Rules of the Road

   • Practice questions online or through the RSA app
     

2. Book Your Test

   • Visit the official site: theorytest.ie

   • Choose Motorcycle Theory Test – Category A

   • Select your nearest centre (available nationwide)

   • Pay the fee (currently €45)
     

3. Take the Test

   • You'll answer 40 multiple-choice questions

   • You need 35 correct answers to pass (87.5% pass mark)

   • If you pass, you’ll receive a Theory Test Certificate
